The Derby at Genesee Country Village & Museum Names Make-A-Wish® Western New York as Beneficiary

Written by: Emily Riden
Client: The Derby at The Genesee Country Village & Museum
Release Date: 2015-03-19

Mumford, NY – March 19, 2015 – The Derby at the Genesee Country Village & Museum (GCV&M) is returning to Western New York on June 6 – 7, 2015, but the positive impact of the USHJA National and International Derby event will stretch well beyond those two days. This year, a portion of The Derby’s proceeds will go to directly benefit Make-A-WishWestern New York.

“Make-A-Wish® is an organization that touches so many lives and has such an amazing impact on the kids and families that it benefits,” said Brian Brown, founder and manager of The Derby at GCV&M. “We want The Derby to not only be an incredible horse show for riders, trainers and spectators, but we also want it also to be something that gives back to the community and makes a difference. We hope to continue to grow a relationship with Make-A-WishWestern New York for years to come.”

Make-A-Wish Western New York believes that one wish experience can be a game-changer for a child, and that belief guides Make-A-Wish Western New York in all that they do, granting close to 150 wishes each year to children diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions.

Many children living with these illnesses do not get to experience the simple joys that childhood brings; instead their lives are filled with medical worries far greater than what children should have to endure. A wish provides a much-needed respite from the world of hospitals and doctors, and is often a turning point in the fight against an illness.

The two-day Derby event kicks off on Saturday, June 6 with a $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby on Saturday morning, followed by the inaugural $5,000 Pony Hunter Derby. The main event, the $35,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby takes center stage on Sunday afternoon on the picturesque Great Field of the Genesee Country Village & Museum.

A minimum of $7,500 of the event proceeds will benefit Make-A-WishWestern New York. Learn more about the local chapter by visiting
