Messenger Hill Farm Celebrates a Winning WEF Week 10 - From Grand Prix to Walk/Trot Messenger Hill Farm Riders Achieve Their Goals

Release Date: 2015-03-19

Wellington, FL - March 20, 2015 - Messenger Hill Farm, trainers Freddie and Jodi Vazquez and their clients are having a successful season at the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF). This past week they achieved significant accomplishments in all rings and all levels. Freddie Vazquez and his stallion Zippo Z came earned fifth place the $127,000 Horseware Ireland Grand Prix CSI 3*, Jodi Vazquez bested her professional colleagues with Modigliani to the championship of the 3 foot Open Hunters, longtime client Caitlin Boyle won the Platinum Performance USEF Talent Search amateur Meg Gehron won a competitive Low Adult Hunter class aboard Smitten and Buttons on Bows and her young rider Elodie Watrous were champions in their walk/trot pony division.

"I work with Chris Kappler because he is the ultimate example of the American riding style," said Freddie Vazquez. "I try to emulate his technique and be as smooth and efficient as I can."

Vazquez, who has had the stallion for around a year, represented Puerto Rico in the Central American and Caribbean Games with Zippo Z in November and hopes to compete in the Pan-American Games in July. He has been competing Zippo in the 1.50m and it was only their second event at 1.60m but their first time under the lights. The pair has qualified for the grand prix often during WEF but they decided to wait until the time was right to try him in the feature class. Vazquez International Ring on Saturday night of Week 10 for two reasons.

"It was a three star instead of a five star, so it was just a little softer," said Vazquez. "Secondly, it was a Michel Vaillancourt designed the course, who will course design the Pan-American Games, so we thought we would take advantage of the experience to ride his tracks one more time. The course had a lot of related distances, and I enjoyed doing that. The last line was probably the biggest question we've had to date, but we had a solid plan."

"We've had that horse a year and I think it just takes that time to really know your horse," added Jodi Vazquez. "To enter classes like that, you need to know the horse well and you need to know what works. He's never jumped this big of a track with that horse until this season. I was really proud of him. He rode great. He always rides great."

The Puerto Rico Equestrian Federation will announce their show jumping roster for the Pan-American Games by June 15,2015.

Super star equitation rider Caitlin Boyle, claimed her third Platinum Performance USEF Talent Search. She nailed her ride aboard AbilityDance, owned by Stadium Sport Jumpers who she has ridden since WEF Week 1. Boyle rides with longtime trainers, Freddie and Jodi Vazquez and Andre Dignelli from Heritage Farm in Katonah, New York.

"Andre has this horse and they get along really well," said Jodi Vazquez. "She won a three star a few weeks ago. She's been riding for us and getting rides for him, so she's keeping up her riding so once she's at school she'll be prepared and ready for the USET Finals in the fall."

Modigliani is a beautiful Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Jamie Stryker that the Vazquezes found for their client. Jodi rode "Mo" to the championship of the WEF Open Hunter 3 foot division during WEF Week 10.

"Between our young client Chloe Jhin and myself, I think he's won eight to 10 classes," Jodi Vazquez said. "Meg (Gehron) catch rode him once and she won on him. He's just a great horse - just super fun. To find a horse that will win the professional classes and then have a little girl ride him - it's hard to find those."

Meg Gehron also won a class this week with Smitten, owned by Jill Vannatta in the Low Adult Hunters.

"Every client has had success," said Jodi Vazquez. "We're going into Week 11 and everyone's accomplished their goals. Whether it's moving up in their division or just coming down here to win in their division, everyone's kind of accomplished that."

"But we're just really happy," she continued. "It's tough down here, and everyone's held their own, which is huge. Saturday night we're at the grand prix and Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. we're at the walk/trot."

Messenger Hill Farm has had success at the walk/trot as well. Their client, Elodie Watrous and Buttons on Bows, owned by Jill Aureliano, earned their third championship during WEF Week 10, plus the pair has earned three reserve championships.

"We want to teach people at whatever level they want to learn," said Jodi Vazquez." When you can start those kids from step one, that's when you can have long-term success."
