Wellington, FL - Oct. 13, 2015 - Suzan Oakley, DVM, Diplomate ABVP (Equine), Cert ISELP will bring her expansive knowledge of equine diagnostic imaging to the prestigious Florida Association of Equine Practitioners Promoting Excellence Symposium in Naples, Florida Oct. 15-18, 2015. This symposium hosts attendees from all over the world and is featuring an equine biomechanics and ultrasound wet lab featuring the world renown Dr. Jean Marie Denoix.
Dr. Oakley will share her proficiency in equine diagnostic ultrasound during the wet lab, focusing on the evaluation of the equine pelvis. This type of diagnosis is safe and noninvasive and is on the forefront of veterinary technology.
"The pelvis has been an overlooked part of horse anatomy because of the limitations and diagnostic challenges associated with X-rays," said Dr. Oakley. "The large X-ray machines required were available only at major equine hospitals and universities. The horse needed to undergo the risk of general anesthesia for the pelvic area X-ray studies to be done. Now with the major advancements in ultrasound, the equine practitioner can easily evaluate the pelvis, sacroiliac joints, and sciatic nerve roots safely in the horse's own barn."
Dr. Oakley will be presenting during the wet lab alongside the headline speaker, Jean Marie Denoix, DVM, Phd, Assoc. LA-ECVDI, DACVSMR, ISELP certified instructor. Dr. Denoix works at the Center for Imaging and Research in Equine Locomotor Disorders (CIRALE), in Normandy, France. Internationally considered the world's leading equine musculoskeletal system anatomist and diagnostic ultrasonographer, Dr. Denoix is a founder and current president of ISLEP, a highly respected international organization that focuses on imaging, rehabilitation and lameness in equine athletes.
As one of only a handful of North American equine veterinarians certified by ISELP, Dr. Oakley has been a frequent instructor nationally and internationally on equine ultrasound imaging. Her focus is on equine sports medicine lameness, pre-purchase exams, referral ultrasound evaluations, and complete rehabilitation protocols.
At Wellington Equine Sports Medicine, Dr. Oakley works in conjunction with distinguished equine educators and practitioners Dr. Anne Moretta and Dr. Sheila Schils. Wellington Equine focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of the equine athlete. Rather than treating individual symptoms, the Wellington Equine team evaluates the entire horse with innovative approaches and technology to resolve underlying lameness or performance issues. Their team philosophy provides a cohesive treatment plan from initial diagnosis, selection of the best treatment options to the development of rehabilitation protocols using individually tailored steps in equine care.
