Focus on the Fundamentals Pays off for the Messenger Hill Farm Team at Tryon

Written by: Carrie Wirth
Client: Messenger Hill Farm
Release Date: 2015-10-21

Tryon, NC - Oct. 21, 2015 - Chicago area's Messenger Hill Farm trainers Jodi and Freddie Vazquez put an emphasis on horsemanship fundamentals with their program tailored to the advancing the goals of their clients. In the past weeks, their efforts paid off at Tryon with multiple wins and championships.

After wrapping up the fall shows in Illinois, the group headed down to Tryon for a nice warm up before the winter equestrian season in Wellington. It was also an opportunity for Freddie Vazquez to get his jumper Bachelor 4 under the lights for the first time and to get some miles with his Pan Am Games partner Esprit de Vie.

"We've stepped up our horsemanship program and we've been doing groups and equitation, even with the little kids," said Jodi Vazquez. "They're lessoning three or four days a week. They are going beyond just riding and focusing on their future goals."

Chloe Watrous, who recently stepped up to the Small Ponies was reserve champion in the division with Just Darlun and was champion in the Small Children's Hunter Ponies with Highlands Bridget Jones.

"She has exceeded our expectations. She has worked really hard and is at the level where it's seamless and easy," said Jodi Vazquez. "She came down to show at Tryon the week of Hurricane Joaquin and ended up showing her sister's pony, Sugarbrook Game Plan in Children's Hunter Ponies."

The pair proceeded to win the championship combined with the Children's Hunters despite the questionable weather. Then her sister, Elodie Watrous showed him and was champion in the cross rails."

Meg Gehron and Smitten, owned by Jill Vannatta, earned two wins over fences to clinch the championship of the Adult Amateur Hunters 18-35. The pair also earned the victory gallop with their win in the $500 NAL/WIHS Adult Hunter Classic.

Kira Telford also had the Messenger Hill Farm team cheering ringside. Following up Freddie Vazquez's championship with her CR Moet in the 3'6" Performance Hunters, Teflord proceeded to earn the championship in the Junior Hunters and reserve championship with her other junior hunter, Friday Night. Telford topped it off with the blue ribbon in the $1,000 Junior Hunter Classic.

"Kira is a product of the program," Jodi Vazquez said. "I'm really happy with the outcome of our work and how our clients have responded. We're excited about WEF this year and can't wait to get back down there."
