Great Lakes Equestrian Festival Adds FEI Classes to Expanded Schedule Book Your Housing Today

Release Date: 2015-11-23

Traverse City, MI - Nov. 23, 2015 - Make your plans now to enjoy summer in the Traverse City, Michigan area, while you enjoy top-notch competition at the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival. The newly expanded seven-week schedule includes FEI Jumpers during the new August dates Weeks V, VI and VII. Week II is World Champion Hunter Rider (WCHR) week and an International Hunter Derby is featured during Week IV.

Traverse City was named Smithsonian Magazine's "Top Ten Best Small Towns to Visit in 2015."  Fodors Travel's Jimmy Im says, "Traverse City is a burgeoning food and wine destination, popular for its cherries, excellent vineyards, and farm-to-table cuisine." Bon Appetit magazine named it one of the top five foodie towns in America.

Known for its pristine beaches, the area was voted one of the top 10 best summer trips by the travel editors at National Geographic. Viewers of ABC's Good Morning America voted nearby Sleeping Bear Dunes, "The Most Beautiful Place in America."

"I think it is so beautiful up here and the facility is great," said young rider Alliy Moyer. "I have been coming up here since I was a kid. When we get done early we get out on the water. It is just a great place to be."

Last year competitors new to the area enjoyed the Stadium Jumping-produced horse show and everything the area has to offer.

"I was looking for a new place to go in July," said Liz Adkins. I had never been here and everyone was telling me how amazing it is, so I thought, 'Why not give it a go?' and it is a beautiful, amazing facility. I love it."

"The Traverse City area is a fantastic place to spend the summer, with unlimited activities and wonderful restaurants," said Matt Morrissey. "We had many great reviews and have been hearing from our local lodging partners that many were already making their arrangements for next year. It's a good idea to book now."

The Great Lakes Equestrian Festival is set on 88 beautiful acres and showcases five world-class competition rings in addition to spacious schooling rings. The property features convenient on-site campgrounds, making for a truly unique attendee experience.

With its gorgeous summer setting and a wide range of classes, the 2016 Great Lakes Equestrian Festival is an event equestrians won't want to miss. Those planning to attend the show next summer should book their housing early due to the popularity of the region and the resort nature of the area.
