Hallway Feeds Extends Sponsorship of 2016 USHJA National Hunter Derby Series at Kentucky Horse Shows

Written by: Taylor Renner
Client: Kentucky Horse Shows LLC
Release Date: 2016-05-09

Lexington, Ky. – May 9, 2016 – Kentucky Horse Shows LLC is pleased to announce that the $40,0000 Hallway Feeds USHJA National Hunter Derby series will be returning for the fifth year in a row at the Kentucky Horse Park. The five-part series will feature a $5,000 Hallway Feeds USHJA National Hunter Derby throughout the spring and summer horse shows with a $15,000 Hallway Feeds Leading Rider Bonus presented at the conclusion of the series.
The USHJA National Hunter Derby program will be in its seventh year in 2016 and is growing in prestige and popularity. Amateurs, juniors and professional riders are eligible to compete, giving it a broad base of support and interest. The dates of the shows are as follows:
  • Kentucky Spring Horse Show: May 11–15, 2016
  • Kentucky Spring Classic: May 18–22, 2016
  • Kentucky Summer Horse Show: July 27–31, 2016
  • Kentucky Summer Classic: August 2–7, 2016
  • Bluegrass Festival Horse Show: August 16–21, 2016
The $15,000 Hallway Feeds Leading Rider Bonus will award a $10,000 cash prize to the professional rider accumulating the most points in the five classes that make up the 2016 Hallway Feeds series. The series-leading amateur and junior riders accumulating the most points will each receive a $2,500 cash prize. Riders will receive points only on their highest placed horse in each of the classes. The awards will be presented at the conclusion of the Hallway Feeds class at the Bluegrass Festival Horse Show on August 21.
"Hallway Feeds is pleased to partner with Kentucky Horse Shows to present the fifth annual Hallway Feeds USHJA National Hunter Derby series," noted Morgan McQuerry of Hallway Feeds. "We have enjoyed working with everyone involved in the series, and are looking forward to another exciting year! We anticipate a large number of riders and horses!"
During the 2015 Hallway Feeds USHJA National Hunter Derby series, professional rider Molly Sewell took home the coveted $10,000 Hallway Feeds Leading Rider Bonus, while junior rider Lilly French and amateur rider Missy Luczak-Smith each claimed the $2,500 Leading Rider Bonus'. Sewell also received a free flight for a horse, within the continental U.S., provided by Tex Sutton.
Sewell was aboard El Raymond, a 17-year-old Warmblood gelding owned by Stuart and Leslie Campbell of Wellington, Florida, to score her top placings in the 2015 series. She commented, "I love having these smaller derbies to do because [El Raymond] doesn't need to jump 3'6" anymore. He just loves doing these classes. He really rises to the occasion. I am so thankful to the horse's owner, Leslie Campbell, who lets me show him and do these derbies on him. She sacrifices sometimes not showing him herself just so I can do them, and I think that is so generous of her.
"I think it's a great thing for the Kentucky Horse Shows to do, and it's so generous of Hallway Feeds to sponsor it," continued Sewell, who began participating in the series in 2013. "It's certainly a really nice thing for hunter riders to aim for. It used to be that the money in the hunters wasn't quite as good as the jumpers, but it seems like it's all catching on now."
Hallway Feeds' close proximity to the Kentucky Horse Park provides ample opportunity to utilize the freshest feed manufactured with time-honored commitments to high standards of quality and the latest scientific advancements. Combining a premium nutrition package with a professional level of dedication in horsemen and women provides equine athletes with the formula for success.
