Traverse City, Mich. – Aug. 25, 2016 – Hillary Johnson is a consistent competitor at the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival (GLEF), and has been for years. Johnson returned to the Flintfields Horse Park for the 2016 edition, taking Series One by storm, and returning for the second series to dominate all three weeks of competition.

Johnson kicked off Thursday morning with three blue ribbons aboard Moonwalk, owned by Copper Fox LLC. Her triad of first place finishes secured the grey gelding the Wrenwood Farm Green Working Hunter Championship. She rode her second mount of the division, Sorrento, owned by Copper Fox LLC, to the reserve rosette with the second and third place over fences, as well as the third place under saddle on the second day of competition.

Johnson smiled, “I think it is Moonwalk’s expression and his way of going. He has such a happy and loose movement, very natural, and he isn’t mechanical to ride.”

Moonwalk was also awarded the Wrenwood Farm Green Working Hunter Circuit Championship, with Kelsey Wickham and Pick Six earning the Reserve Circuit Championship.

“Moonwalk is just the best,” owner Kendall Meijer said. “He is so much fun to ride, and so much fun to be around. He is a really special horse.”

During the Green Conformation Hunters, Copper Fox LLC’s Voyager made a clean second-day sweep, clinching the championship just ahead of Sorrento, who picked up his second reserve championship of Week Seven.

“We have taken our time with Voyager, and he has been so much fun to watch,” Meijer said. “Voyager is so athletic and talented, and it is just a matter of taking our time so that he can mature. This is what is fun for me about owning green horses. I love being able to watch them go through the Pre-Greens and then the First Years and now the Second Years. He is so special because he jumps so good and is such a beautiful mover, I love watching him show.”

Kelsey Wickham and Pick Six captured the Green Conformation Hunter Circuit Championship, while Johnson and Sorrento won the Reserve Circuit Championship.

“It takes a village,” Johnson smiled. “There are so many people behind the scenes that help to make showing easier, I really cannot thank them enough for such a great show, and all of their hard work.”

Meijer concluded, “I love this horse show. I love being in Northern Michigan in the summer time, you cannot have a better summer show. I hope that the hunters will continue to grow in the second series so that we can continue showing in August. There is no place I would rather be.”

Series Two concludes Aug. 28, after featuring three weeks of hunter and jumper competition with a FEI CSI2* rating Week Five and Six and a FEI CSI3* rating during Week Seven, culminating in the $100,000 Grand Traverse Grand Prix on Sunday, Aug. 28. Hunter highlights for Week Seven include the $2,500 Glory Days USHJA National Hunter Derby, which will take place Sunday, Aug. 28.

The Great Lakes Equestrian Festival is set on 88 beautiful acres and showcases five world-class competition rings in addition to spacious schooling rings. The property features do not stop there as the park offers convenient on-site campgrounds and weekly nights of entertainment for a truly unique attendee experience.
