Marc Latsko Hospitalized After Terrible Injury; Donations Readily Accepted

Freehold, NJ – August 19, 2006 – Marc Latsko, who has worked on the equestrian show circuit for the last 12 years, sustained a life threatening injury while unloading shavings at the Monmouth County Horse Show. He has been hospitalized and in critical care for over a week and will remain in the hospital for at least another four days. Unfortunately, Latsko was not carrying health insurance at the time.

“He was hit by a pallet grab going at about 90 miles an hour,” said David Orlando. “The pallet grabber is basically 35 pounds of metal. It came back and snapped off the pallet and then hit him in the back. He went away in the ambulance, and they took him right to the emergency room.”

“They did a bunch of work on him,” continued Orlando. “He had MRIs and CAT scans, and then they put him in critical care right away. They monitored him because he ruptured his spleen and, after a couple days, his spleen didn’t heal. They had to rush him into surgery because it was still bleeding; they removed his spleen in surgery two days ago. So, he’s trying to recover from that, and they’re just making sure he doesn’t have pneumonia or any other complications.”

“Marc shattered two ribs,” he added. “Each rib is broken in four or five spots, so he now has two free floating ribs he’s got to recover from, and then he’s recovering from his spleen surgery. He also has a lot of fluid in the bottom part of his stomach. They’re hoping that he can get out of critical care tomorrow, but they’re not sure. Anything that we can help him out with as far as contributions are concerned would be greatly appreciated by everyone.”

Latsko has worked at such shows as The Hampton Classic, the Winter Equestrian Festival, Old Salem Farm Horse Show, and the majority of USEF competitions. His hospital bills are in currently in excess of $80,000 to $100,000.
