Kentucky Spring Horse Shows Host 2007 Legacy Cup and Welcome Nation’s Top Hunters

Written by: Jenny Ross Koning
Client: Kentucky Horse Shows LLC
Release Date: 2007-04-13

Lexington, KY – April 13, 2007 – The nation’s top hunters will be the showcase once again at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY, during the Kentucky Spring Horse Shows, held May 9-13 and May 16-20. These two weeks of competition, produced by Kentucky Horse Shows, LLC, also host the highly regarded Legacy Cup.

The Legacy Cup is a hunter tradition that honors both professional and nonprofessional hunter athletes. Created by the American Hunter-Jumper Foundation, Inc. (AHJF), the 2007 Legacy Cup will be included with show manager Hugh Kincannon’s Kentucky Spring events for the fourth year in a row.

The event is held as a separate competition from the Kentucky Spring Horse Shows, which feature top hunters and jumpers competing in their regular divisions throughout the show grounds. The partnership continues between the Legacy Cup and the Kentucky Spring Horse Shows, providing exhibitors scheduling flexibility and the opportunity to take advantage of pairing their Legacy Cup experience with one of the nation’s top AA rated hunter events. The Legacy Cup differs from regular hunter competitions in that the divisions include two professional and two non-pro divisions, with fences standing at 3’ and 3’6’’ in height. The showcase also offers the Legacy Cup Pony Hunter Division.

The hunter divisions at the Kentucky Spring Horse Shows are divided into sections that relate to either the experience of the horse or the status and age of the rider. Hunter divisions include Green Conformation and Regular Conformation Hunters, as well as Green and Regular Working Hunters. Amateur-Owner Hunters, Small and Large Junior Working Hunters, Adult Amateurs, Children’s, and Pony Hunters are also offered at the spring shows.

In addition to the top caliber hunter competition, the Kentucky Spring Horse Shows offer jumper riders the Hagyard Challenge Jumper Series. This summer-long series of major show jumping competitions features $170,000 in prize money and includes seven grand prix events. The Kentucky Spring Horse Shows will host two $30,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic Grand Prix CSI 3* events, with the first scheduled for Thursday, May 10, and the second event on Thursday, May 17. The seventh and final event, the $50,000 Hagyard Lexington CSI-W, will be held at the Kentucky National Indoor Horse Show on September 28, 2007.

Along with the Hagyard Challenge Jumper Series, the spring shows will host two Sunday grand prix events, the $50,000 Commonwealth Grand Prix CSI 3* and the $50,000 Mary Rena Murphy Grand Prix CSI 3*, which is a member event of the AGA Grand Prix Series. VIP seating is available each week in the ringside spectator pavilions, and table holders and their guests will enjoy complimentary luncheons preceding the featured classes.

The Kentucky Horse Park offers ample stabling, showing and riding space, and truly provides something for everyone. As the future site of the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, the park is also home to the United States Equestrian Federation, the national governing body for equestrian sport. This spring, the Kentucky Spring Horse Shows will continue the prestigious Legacy Cup tradition while welcoming competitors from around the nation to their first class venue.
