Ashley Partow and Cool Flood Triumph at Kentucky Summer Horse Show Against World-Class Competition

Release Date: 2007-08-01

Lexington, KY – August 1, 2007 – Opening day of the Kentucky Summer Horse Show was another showcase of the nation’s top competitors. Held at the idyllic Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY, the show features a variety of hunter-jumper classes with generous prize money, including the $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic and the $40,000 Kentucky Summer Grand Prix.

Today ten important riders, including Show Jumping Olympian Chris Kappler, exhibited their talents in the 1.45m Open Jumper class in the famously large Sheila C. Johnson Arena. Course designer Richard Jeffery of Bournemouth, England, set a sizeable track in the 300’x 400’ space, making use of a grass bank and open water.

With the only double-clear performance in the Table II.2(b) class, Ashley Partow piloted Cool Flood to the win with a jump-off time of 52.900 seconds. Partow, who hails from Bernardsville, NJ, has owned the 16-year-old Australian Thoroughbred for the past five years and started out their career together in the High Amateur-Owner Jumper division. “The course was great,” Partow said of Jeffery’s 10 fence track. “It was built well and was big enough as a warm up for either of the grand prix events. It also had its test points.”

A veteran of the prestigious Kentucky Summer Horse Shows, Partow says that she will continue to return to the Bluegrass lands because the show is “absolutely gorgeous.” Boasting five capacious show rings, which Partow calls “perfect,” the Kentucky Horse Park has something for everybody on its grandiose acreage in the heart of Kentucky horse country. “You have two enormous cross-country fields to school on,” she said, “and if you have a green horse or a horse that’s ready to go, there is a class to ride in.”

Partow will not ride Cool Flood in tomorrow’s $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic, but will opt to “save him for the [$40,000 Kentucky Summer Grand Prix]” on Saturday, where she will be joined once again by an impressive roster of competition.

Prior to the highlighted 1.45m class in the Johnson Arena, 15 horses jumped around Jeffery’s track in the 1.40m Open Jumper speed class. Taking home the blue was Aaron Vale with Copado, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Earnest Oare of Warrenton, VA. With 10 clear rounds, Vale took the blue ribbon after setting a 2 second leading time of 60.790.

Jumper action continues tomorrow in the Johnson Arena with the $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic Grand Prix. The prix, scheduled for 6:30 p.m., is one of seven overall events that comprise the Hagyard Challenge Series. Sponsored by the Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, the series offers $170,000 in prize money and a Leading Rider Bonus worth $30,000.
