Release Date: 2008-03-29

Tampa, FL – March 29, 2008 – The morning brought sunshine, hunters and determination to the show ring during the second week of the Tampa Equestrian Festival.

Juniors in the Small and Large Jr. Hunters were out ready to hunt for blue ribbons in the ring today. The horses were immaculate and the competition was top notch. The 3’6” course of nine fences rode well for all the riders.

The Small Jr. Hunters rode well and gave everyone a good show. The course flowed and the lines had a nice, open stride. The first class went to Laura Pheiffer and Manchinell, owned by Doug Mesker of Tampa, FL. Winning the second class was owner/rider Samantha Schaffer aboard her Monroe.

“I love doing the jumpers, but the hunters are more my feel, my forte,” said Schaffer.

Schaffer, 14 years old, from Westnimster, MD, returned with D’Artagnan in the Large Junior Hunters and received a first and third place ribbon in that division.

“This is only my second time showing him, the first time was in Ocala. He is a second year horse this year and he is really easy,” said Schaffer. “You get him going and just put him on cruise control and go.”

The Amateur-Owner and Adult Amateur Hunters finished up their divisions today. Champion of the Amateur-Owner division was rider Michelle Spadone and Endo Fino, owned by Redfield Farm of Califon, NJ. Reserve champion went to owner/rider Jennifer Farri of Brooksville, FL and Bling Bling.

Winning the Championship in the Adult Amateur Hunter 3’3” division was Foster and owner/rider Joan Ehrhart from Ocala, FL. Reserve champion also went to Ehrhart and her other horse Goodnight. The Amateur-Owner Working Hunter division champion was presented to Kimberly Mallomian and Twist of Fate, owned by Margaret Page of Montclair, NJ. Reserve champion was Wellington and owner/rider Shelbi Sinclari of Somers, NY.

The Tampa Equestrian Festival runs from March 19-April 6, 2008. Competition for the Tampa Bay Classic continues through Sunday, March 30. The highlight class for hunters at the Tampa Equestrian Festival is the $20,000 ASG Software Solutions USHJA International Hunter Derby. The class will host a “Tradition, Tailgate, Top Hot, and Tails” party and will be held on Sunday, April 6, at 1 p.m. at Wrenwood Farm in Naples, FL.
