Siphon City Runs Last Race to a New Life

Written by: Phelps Media Group, Inc.
Client: Pure Thoughts Horse Rescue
Release Date: 2009-09-05

Loxahatchee, FL - Sept. 4, 2009 -- Siphon City, a son of multiple Grade 1 winner Siphon who ran against the best of his generation, was retired after running at Calder Race Course in a $5,000 claiming race on June 28, 2009. The 7 year old won over $375,000 in his career including the Grade 2 Cornhusker Handicap.

Many devoted racing enthusiasts became concerned for Siphon City and his ability to continue racing. Barbi Moline had been following Siphon City for years and contacted Maggi Moss and Celia Fawkes to ask for their help in retiring the veteran. In an unexpected twist, another claim had been put in for Siphon City after his final race and trainer David Fawkes had to win the shake to ensure his safe retirement.

At the end of July, Siphon City arrived at Pure Thoughts Inc. Thoroughbred Rehabilitation and Placement Division. Siphon City is now relaxing at the farm and is in the rehabilitation process. He will begin re-training in two weeks and when ready, will be placed in his "forever home." As with most Thoroughbred race horses he has a great mind and he will make great riding horse. Although his racing career is over for Siphon City, his new life has just begun. To see more of Siphon City visit.

In March of 2009, Pure Thoughts, Inc. expanded their rescue to include a Thoroughbred Division dedicated to horses that have raced in Florida. The Thoroughbreds are evaluated, rehabilitated and when they are emotionally and physically ready they are retrained to be successfully and safely placed into their new homes. All horses are placed with an adoption contract. Since the inception of this new division, 10 of the 25 Thoroughbreds that have arrived at Pure Thoughts have been successfully placed into their forever homes. The most recent include Who's Crying Now, a nine year old stakes winner who won over $750,000 and True Love's Secret, a 12 year old who raced 70 times and won $500,000.
