Cherry Knoll Elsa 8014 Named Grand Champion Angus Female at the 2010 National Western Stock Show

Written by: Lauren Fisher
Client: Todd Flettrich
Release Date: 2010-01-20

Denver, CO – January 20, 2010 – Competing at the 2010 National Western Stock Show Super Point Roll of Victory (ROV) & National Angus Show on January 15, 2010, in Denver, CO, Cherry Knoll Farm had an exciting weekend as Cherry Knoll Elsa 8014 was named Grand Champion Angus Female. Owned by Shelby Stabler of Gathersburg, MD, Cherry Knoll Elsa 8014 was born on February 23, 2008, and was sired by HSAF Bando 1961.

Cherry Knoll Elsa 8014 was first crowned Junior Champion Heifer by judge Brian Barragree of Absarokee, MT, and associate judge Troy Thomas of Harrold, SD. The pair evaluated 235 females throughout the show and then determined the exciting top honor of Grand Champion.

Cherry Knoll Farm is home to owner Margaret Duprey, whose passion for livestock comes together in the love of her grand champion heifers and grand prix level dressage horses. Duprey owns her West Grove, Pennsylvania, farm as well as a beautiful stable for her horses in Wellington, Florida, where she competes during the winter. In owning top level cattle and horses, Duprey is fulfilling her childhood dream, and is thrilled at the success.

Cherry Knoll Elsa 8014 was bred and raised at Cherry Knoll Farm and then sold to Shelby Stabler to compete in the Junior and Open Heifer divisions. Cherry Knoll Farm has bred the Grand Champion Angus Female for four out of the last five years that they have been going to Denver to compete, and Duprey is very proud of her farm’s quality program.

“The excitement for us is that this is the first Heifer that we have bred, raised and sold that has won, and to go out and do something like this is very exciting,” Duprey acknowledged. “The judges look at the conformation and movement of each entry very closely and pick the winner with the most ideal body structure, so we work very carefully each year to produce the highest quality cattle.”

While owner Margaret Duprey and manager Tim Fitzgerald operate Cherry Knoll Farm on the “quality not quantity” philosophy, their personal attention to detail is the secret to the profound successes they have experienced breeding and developing Angus cattle that are functional and competitive on the national level.

A consistent producer of state, regional and national champions, Cherry Knoll Farm established an Angus herd in 1993. Margaret has an extensive background in the equine industry and chose to become involved in Angus in 1993 primarily because of the Fitzgerald family. Tim's brother Bryan previously worked for Cherry Knoll and had extensive roots in the Angus breed.

Cherry Knoll cattle are designed to fit a variety of programs, with a focus on high profile genetics, proven cow families, and the elite sires in the breed. Primary clientele include fellow Angus breeders, NJAA , 4-H and FFA exhibitors, as well as commercial producers seeking the added benefits of utilizing advanced, contemporary Angus genetics. This breeding program strives to meet the goals of its customers and it has gained the unique ability to raise cattle to fit all of these markets.

The Cherry Knoll operation is managed utilizing time-proven beef cattle production practices combined with progressive genetics and technology, and matched with unbeatable customer service, and a reputation of honesty and integrity. For more information, please visit Cherry Knoll Farm’s website at
