Racehorses Begin Their New Life at Shamrock Lee Farms

Written by: Phelps Media Group, Inc.
Client: Pure Thoughts Horse Rescue http://www.pthr.org
Release Date: 2010-05-11

Loxahatchee, FL -- After retirement, rarely do you see today's athletes, businessmen or pilots curl up in a bark-o-lounger with a remote and a bag of potato chips. It's not in them; most continue in the working world in some capacity. Same is true for racehorses -- those who are physically able -- who continue doing some sort of equine activity, whether showing, trail riding, family pet, etc. Pure Thoughts Florida Thoroughbred Rehab and Placement (FTRP) is here to do just that... help the racehorses begin a new life after their racing career is over.

Sound Check, a 6 year old gelding, and Miracle of Dreams, a 5 year old filly, have both began that new life. One that consists of activity, kids and most importantly people who love them. What more could a horse ask for?

Both Thoroughbreds were adopted from Pure Thoughts by Weston Le Monte at Shamrock Lee Farms who specializes in hunter/jumper/dressage. Shamrock Lee offers full board, lease, sale, and riding instruction services for aspiring beginners to experienced equestrians.

When their racing career at Calder Race Course was over, they entered into the FTRP Program, which was designed exclusively to help racehorses. The organization believes that there is life after racing for these Thoroughbreds.

Jennifer Swanson, co-founder of Pure Thoughts said, "The Thoroughbreds are a breed that have an amazing heart and are willing to give it. We believe that if they are physically able to have a second life of riding, they should."

Since March of 2009, Pure Thoughts FTRP has taken in 84 racehorses. Thirty-six have been adopted, while others are in various stages of rehabilitation and retraining, and are available for adoption. Only two thoroughbreds have been deemed sanctuary horses and one never raced.

Please consider making your next horse an ex-racehorse. If you are interested in adopting one of these beauties you can call Brad Gaver at 561-951-2108. The website is www.PTHR.org or www.FTRP.org. Not all available horses are on the website so please call. Florida Thoroughbred Rehab & Placement is a division of Pure Thoughts Inc. Horse & Foal Rescue.
