Pegasus Therapeutic Ridingís Pegasus Farm Chapter Announces New Home for The Riderís Closet

Written by: Lindsay McCall
Client: Phelps Media Group, Inc.
Release Date: 2010-05-18

Brewster, New York - May 18, 2010 - Pegasus Therapeutic Ridingís Pegasus Farm chapter announced today that The Riderís Closet program, developed by Georgina Bloomberg, will now be based out of Pegasus Therapeutic Ridingís Pegasus Farm chapter in Brewster, NY. The program originated four years ago, when Bloomberg wanted to donate her lightly used show clothing to a good cause, but was not sure where to start. The Riderís Closet began as an endeavor to provide a place where all equestrians could donate their clothing so that other riders who may not be able to purchase their own riding attire and equipment could take advantage of these otherwise expensive items that had been outgrown, but were still in good condition.

Thus far, The Riderís Closet has already proven to be of great value to a variety of programs, including, but not limited to a number of intercollegiate riding teams. While The Riderís Closet has been growing, so has Bloombergís equestrian career. Over the last few years, the demand has risen, and with Bloomberg traveling to various equestrian competitions around the world, she wanted to move The Riderís Closet from a home-based operation, to a new home where it could get more attention. ďIím really excited about this move,Ē said Bloomberg. ďIt is a great situation for both the Riderís Closet and the Pegasus Therapeutic Riding program. They have a first class program, one that Iíve been really impressed with over the years. I think the move will benefit a lot of equestrians on a number of different levels.Ē

Expanding The Riderís Closet operations entailed a larger space, which is why it will now be moving into a large version of a walk-in-closet at its new home on Pegasus Farm in Brewster, NY. This initiative will be managed by Pegasus staff and volunteers, who have decades of experience in nonprofit marketing and donor relations.

ďThough we couldnít do what we do without the help of our amazing therapy horses, our mission to serve individuals with special needs is, at heart, people helping people,Ē notes Pegasus executive director Patti Coyle. ďGeorgina created The Riderís Closet with the same goal in mind, so partnering on this project was an exciting opportunity for us.Ē

The Riderís Closet accepts donations of every kind, from show shirts, jackets, breeches, and other horse show attire, to gloves, sticks, spurs, boots, schooling apparel, and chaps. The only donations that The Riderís Closet is unable to accept are riding helmets due to safety concerns.

Bloombergís original idea has blossomed into a substantial charity with a large and wide-ranging impact. Many intercollegiate teams and therapeutic riding programs have already benefited from The Riderís Closet including:
