Todd Flettrich Advised Against Travel with Grand Prix Mount Otto

Written by: Lauren Fisher
Client: Todd Flettrich http://www.toddflettrichdressage.com
Release Date: 2010-06-28

Wellington, FL – June 28, 2010- Dressage rider Todd Flettrich was unfortunately unable to compete in Fritzen during the beginning of his European tour this summer. The rider’s mount, Otto, arrived in Europe after a horrible trip and Flettrich has been advised to cease all travel until the horse is back in top health.

Otto, a 13-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding owned by Cherry Knoll Farm, arrived in Europe with a fever and a cough from shipping. Otto was initially examined by Hubertus Schmidt’s German veterinarian, and upon consultation with the United State’s Equestrian Federation’s official veterinarian, Dr. Rick Mitchell, Flettrich was advised that it would be in the best interest of the horse not to travel. U.S. Dressage Team Technical Advisor, Anne Gribbons is in agreement, and Flettrich has decided to avoid the risk of travel so that Otto can be in good health for future competitions.

Otto is now in full work and feeling much better, but Dr. Mitchell is concerned about any upcoming long trips. Plans include traveling to Falsterbo and Aachen, traveling back to America, and traveling to the Selection Trials in August.

Flettrich still plans to compete at The World Equestrian Festival at CHIO Aachen on July 9-18, 2010. Flettrich feels confident in the partnership with Otto and looks forward to using the opportunity to gain exposure on the world stage and experience championship competition on the international level as he prepares for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG).

Flettrich will stay in Germany through the conclusion of CHIO Aachen on Sunday, July 18, and will then return to the States to prepare for the 2010 Collecting Gaits Farm/USEF Dressage Festival of Champions. The competition will return to the USET Foundation Headquarters in Gladstone, New Jersey, for two consecutive weekends of extraordinary competition, August 6 – 8 and 13 – 15, 2010. This competition will serve as the Grand Prix Dressage Selection Trials for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Kentucky.

Todd Flettrich is based in Wellington, FL, has earned his USDF Silver and Gold Medals, and is a graduate of the USDF ‘L’ Judge Program. Flettrich competed at the North American Young Riders Championships (NAYRC) four times and won the Individual Gold Medal and Team Silver in 1991. Flettrich served as Region 1 Coach and Chef d’Equipe at NAYRC from 1988 through 1994. His student Catherine Malone won the Individual Gold in 2005. Flettrich’s current mounts are owned by Cherry Knoll Farm. For more information, call Todd Flettrich at 484-459-2749.
