Bruce Duchossois Named to Board of Directors of National Horse Show Association of America

Written by: Kenneth Kraus /
Client: National Horse Show
Release Date: 2012-03-11

Lexington, Kentucky – March 11, 2012 – The National Horse Show Association of America announced today that R. Bruce Duchossois has been named to the Board of Directors.

Duchossois, from Aiken, South Carolina, is one of the country’s leading exhibitors in the Adult Amateur Hunter division and has been deeply involved in numerous aspects of equestrian sports, as has his family. Duchossois’ mother competed on saddlebreds, and his father owned Arlington Park near Chicago, Illinois.

Competing in the hunters, Duchossois first gained national attention when riding his famed hunter Kim’s Song to AHSA Horse of the Year and to championships at the Pennsylvania National, the Washington International and the National Horse Show in New York City.

Riding in the highly competitive Adult Amateur Hunters at the Winter Equestrian Festival, Duchossois has taken home numerous championships and circuit awards on such famous hunters as Regall, Dialog L, Gotcha and Que Sera.

Duchossios has been an avid fox hunter, and has competed in Eventing, and Combined Driving.

He also takes an active interest in the sports he loves.

Duchossios is a Trustee of the USET Foundation and Co-Chair of the Development Committee and Chairman of the Nominating Committee. He is member of the USHJA and serves as Co-Chair of the Owners Task Force and is a member of the Amateurs Committee and the Zone 4 Committee. He is on the Executive Board of the Equestrian Aid Foundation and a Board member of The Aiken Training Track. He is a lifetime member of the USEF, the AQHA and the U.S. Eventing Association.

Mason Phelps, Jr., the President of the National Horse Show Association was delighted with the Duchossois appointment. “I am thrilled to have Bruce on board with us. Not only is he a great friend of mine, but he’s also a great friend to the entire industry and to our sport. His energy and knowledge will be a huge asset to the National Horse Show Association.”

“I started showing at The National in the 60s at the old Garden and in 1973 I was champion aboard Kim's Song,” said Duchossois. “So the National was and always will be the highlight of my riding career. I am honored to be a part of the National Horse Show and so glad that it has found a new home worthy of its ongoing tradition of excellence.”

The tradition of excellence Duchossois mentioned was recognized recently when the North American Riders Group (NARG), in its annual rankings of all North American horse shows, awarded the 2011 Alltech National Horse Show, its highest ranking for any show in the United States.

The second edition of the Alltech National Horse Show in Lexington, Kentucky, is set for October 31 through November 4, 2012. The show will once again be held at the Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park.
