American Gold Cup and Stadium Jumping Helps Charitable Partner JustWorld International Support Adopt a Project in Guatemala

Release Date: 2012-09-17

North Salem, NY September 17, 2012 The American Gold Cup was a resounding success in its first year at Old Salem Farm in North Salem, NY. A more than expected competitor turnout, glorious weather and Stadium Jumping, Inc’s attention to every detail made for an outstanding and memorable show.

JustWorld International, the charitable partner for the American Gold Cup, had a goal to raise enough to support their Adopt a Project effort in Los Patojos, Guatemala. Jessica Newman, Founder and Executive Director of JustWorld International, credits Stadium Jumping for coming up with all the fundraising initiatives at the event. Plus, Stadium Jumping also made a direct donation to raise the proceeds to a grand total of $18,000 to JustWorld International.

“It was an absolutely fantastic show and having been born 15 minutes from here made it that much more wonderful,” said Founder and Executive Director of JustWorld International. “What’s really special is that the very first event to launch JustWorld International nine years ago was with Stadium Jumping at the Winter Equestrian Festival. Nine years later to come back to where I was born with the Morrissey family has been a treat. The show, including their donation is the most a single show has ever raised on its own for Adopt a Project.”

Stadium Jumping and the Morrissey family have not only been supportive over the years, they have taken a personal interest in the work of the organization.

“Both Matt Morrissey and Michael Morrissey Jr. have been to visit the project in Guatemala. They have been involved and supportive of the organization since the very beginning. It’s a family effort,” continued Newman.

“The work that Jessica is doing with her organization is so important,” said Matt Morrissey from Stadium Jumping, Inc. “The horse show world is very insular and we have so much to be grateful for. It is important that we take time to step out of our own circles and reach out and help children around the world who have few resources.”

The Friday night JustWorld International cocktail party at the American Gold Cup was held in the clubhouse at Old Salem Farm. Exhibitors, family and guests mingled and enjoyed the music of Maureen Hamill and Friends. Tickets were sold for a drawing for an original Jeffrey Terreson painting to benefit JustWorld.

On Saturday night the auction donated all the proceeds from the sale of two miniature horses, Sebastian and Sancho. Lyn Pedersen and a syndicate were the highest bidders on the first mini auctioned. The adorable grey mini will be a birthday present for Andre Dignelli to serve as the official mascot of Heritage Farm. Jesse Pasmore purchased the second mini.

On Sunday JustWorld International held its Horseless Horse Show sponsored by Today’s Equestrian Magazine- a fun event for children to jump a course on foot over diminutive jumps. The event was produced like a serious competition. Max Beaumont, only fifteen years old, acted as announcer and kept the crowd entertained as he followed the action. The event was judged by FEI International Judges, Phillip Rozon and John Taylor, both from Canada.

Horseless Horse Show committee members included: Gabby Hero, Chair of the OSF JustWorld Ambassador Committee, Max Beaumont, Alison Cooney, Regina Heit, Katherine Powers, Grace Powers, Monica Carrera, Justin Walter, Kira Kerkorian and Katherine Strauss.
