$175,000 Invitational Grand Prix Returns to The Ridge at Wellington For Fifth Week of Series

Written by: Phelps Media Group, Inc.
Client: The Ridge Farm
Release Date: 2013-02-04

Wellington, FL- February 4, 2013- The highlight of the show jumping season is about to reach its midpoint. The $75,000 Grand Prix Invitational Series at The Ridge at Wellington is preparing for its fifth week of competition. After two weeks of competition at Mida Farm, the event returns to The Ridge at Wellington on Friday, February 8, with a list of national and international contenders giving everything they have to qualify for the finale and possibly take over the Leading Rider Bonus rankings.

Top competitors have been competing in the weekly competition, testing their skills and taking the opportunity to jump in a different venue. After four weeks of the series, Andres Rodriquez is topping the Leading Rider Bonus rankings. He won the first week of competition with his mount Elatrice, as well as easily knocking out the competition last week aboard Caballito, with a time of 31.475 seconds.

“He’s a very, very fast horse,” Rodriquez commented. “My plan was to go as fast as possible, leaving it so that if somebody wanted to beat me they would have to take that inside turn.”

The top three riders in last Friday’s competition at Tops Field at Mida Farm, included Anna McKnight aboard Sandor, owned by Double H Farm, finishing double clear with a jump-off time of 32.525 seconds. Rounding out the top three was Ben Maher aboard Quiet Easy, owned by Seth Vallhonrat. The British native enjoyed his first time out at Mida Farm and anticipates coming back for future classes in the series.

“If we had shows like this everywhere in England I’d be pretty happy,” Maher stated. “This is a beautiful setting, great course, good jumps. It’s relaxed, but is good sport.”

The 10-week series culminates with the $24,750 Ridge at Wellington Invitational Grand Prix Finale on March 23, 2013. Entries are available for the Grand Prix by visiting the The Ridge at Wellington’s website. The Friday event will take place beginning at 8 am and running through 5 pm. It has seen such riders as McLain Ward, Laura Kraut, Candice King, Andrew Bourns, Kevin Babington and many more.

The Ridge at Wellington is a short two-mile ride from the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center, and shuttle service will be available to further aid in the convenience of attending the show. The shuttle will run every two hours, beginning at 7:30 am. To make reservations for the shuttle please call The Ridge at Wellington at 561-791-1471.

Riders are encouraged to get their entries in as soon as possible for the approaching Friday Grand Prix. Turning in entries early will ensure that they get the time that they desire and avoid post entry fees.
