Advisory Council Supports Kids Cancer Foundation

Written by: Maureen Gross
Client: Kids Cancer Foundation
Release Date: 2013-02-08

Wellington, FL - February 8, 2013 - The Kids Cancer Foundation, a charity whose mission is to provide hope and support to local children and families who are battling cancer, has expanded their Advisory Council, recently.  What was once composed of a small, but dedicated, group of volunteers has grown into a committed group of more than 20 influential community leaders from all walks of life. “We are so fortunate to have these Advisory Council members, who support our mission and have joined us in our efforts to meet the increased demand for our services”, said Michelle O’Boyle, RN, CPON, Founder and Executive Director of the Kids Cancer Foundation.  “We have more children than ever who are battling cancer and who need our services.”

The Kids Cancer Foundation Advisory Council is a vital asset to the organization.  They serve as a network into the community and they offer knowledge and advice on all aspects of the Foundation’s activities and programs.  In essence, they are a sounding board for ideas and they provide a wide and varied connection into the local community.  “Each Advisory Council member brings with them a different skill and network into the community,” explained O’Boyle .  “This is a dynamic group of individuals that will funnel their knowledge and energy to help us further our mission of helping our local kids and their families who are fighting cancer.  They will help us take Kids Cancer Foundation to the next level and enable us to strengthen the support and services available to our families”.

Kelly Wiener, a member of the  Advisory Council, stated, “I see our role as providing Kids Cancer Foundation with some extra hands, extra ears and extra vocal mouths to spread the word about them in the community.  Ultimately, we are hoping to provide some much needed extra funding, too.”

When a child is diagnosed with cancer their carefree childhood days are quickly consumed with chemotherapy, endless doctors’ appointments and hospital visits.  This diagnosis not only affects the child, but it impacts the whole family as they struggle to fight the disease.  This is where the Kids Cancer Foundation steps in to provide the families with support and to relieve them from the rigors of unending medical treatment.

“At Christmas, most of us adopted a family from the Kids Cancer Foundation.  Then, we went to the Breakfast with Santa party, and were deeply touched by the smiles on all of children’s faces.” explained Wiener.  “By doing events like this, the Kids Cancer Foundation enables these families to experience some happy memories during a very difficult time in their child’s life.”

At the moment, one of the main focuses of the advisory group will be to promote the organization’s Founders Campaign.  This program offers area businesses and individuals with an opportunity to be a sustaining supporter of the Kids Cancer Foundation and its Family Center, located in Royal Palm Beach.  This Center offers the children assorted services, such as tutoring, nutritional education and cooking, art therapy and a place to relax and be a kid.  Donations to the Founders Campaign will ensure that the Kids Cancer Foundation will be able to continue offering these supportive services for years to come.

The Advisory Council of the Kids Cancer Foundation’s support of the organization’s mission will, undoubtedly, increase and strengthen the programs offered to the children and their families as they battle their cancer.  And, with the Founder’s Campaign, they are hoping that people will jump on board and “Help Us Help Them Fight”.
