The Ridge at Wellington’s $175,000 1.40m Invitational Grand Prix Series Returns For Week 8 This Friday at Mida Farms’ Tops Field

Written by: Kendall Bierer
Client: The Ridge Farm
Release Date: 2013-02-28

Wellington, FL - February 28, 2013 – It isn’t too late to get your foot in the door for the eigth week of competition in the The Ridge at Wellington’s $175,000 1.40m Invitational Grand Prix Series. This sensational series is in its inaugural season, but it has already far exceeded organizer and rider expectations. The series has seen top professional, amateur and junior riders compete over the last eight weeks, leading up to the $24,750 Ridge at Wellington Grand Prix Finale on March 23, 2013.

Riders interested in attempting to ride for the $15,000 in prize money tomorrow should guarantee a spot by submitting their entries today. Entries are available at

Organizers Nona Garson and George D’Ambrosio have put every detail in place to give both horses and riders a quality competition and training experience. The classes are run on an open in-gate basis from approximately 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays, but the 10-week series is reaching its end, and it isn’t too late to try and climb to the top of the leader board. Andres Rodriguez currently holds the highest-ranking position for the Leading Rider Bonus, but with top contenders turning out every week, who knows who will take the lead after Week 8?

This Level II Jumper class, set at a 1.40m, is the only opportunity riders have in Wellington to compete for such a large amount of prize money. For junior riders this is the perfect way to gain experience in different venues, compete in Grand Prix, and add the experience to their ever-growing resume. Top professional riders have remarked on the design and pipe-line the series is creating for young horses and riders, filling a niche in Wellington that complements the Winter Equestrian Festival.

As the series has grown in popularity, owners of some of the best equestrian venues in Wellington have become interested in hosting classes. Victoria McCullough opened the doors of Mida Farm to host several events in the series, giving riders the opportunity to compete on the grass on the magnificent Tops Field. The Grand Prix will return to the beautiful grass footing tomorrow, Friday, March 1.

The opportunity to compete under conditions similar to top national and international events have attracted riders who have their sights set on those shows. “For the Hamptons, for Old Salem, this series is excellent preparation,” Joe Sorce, a two-time competitor in the series, pointed out. “We go to Spruce Meadows in the summer, so it’s good preparation for that, especially when it’s on the grass.”

Riders enjoy the exceptional course design, first-rate footing and generous prizes that have become the hallmarks of The Ridge’s Grand Prix series. Top course designers such as David Ballard, Conrad Homfeld, Pierre Jolicoeur and Eric Hasbrouck have created fair courses that provide a good challenge. The series offers generous cash prizes, including the March 23 season finale, featuring a $24,750 purse, an unheard-of amount for a Level II Jumper class.

“The jumps are beautiful,” Sorce added. “It’s a nice relaxed atmosphere. And it’s a competitive class. It’s not like you’re just going in and doing a schooling round. So it’s been really a lot of fun. I think it’s good for the horses, especially for some of the young horses, to come in and get experience.”

he Friday event will run from 8 am to 5 pm. Riders are encouraged to get their entries in as soon as possible for the approaching Friday Grand Prix. Turning in entries early will ensure that they get the time that they desire.

To further aid in convenience, The Ridge at Wellington will shuttle horses from Mische Way to Mida Farm with the assistance of a professional driver. The shuttle will run every two hours, beginning at 7:30 am. To make reservations for the shuttle please call The Ridge at Wellington at 561-791-1471.
