East Dorset, VT – July 29, 2013 – The Vermont Summer Festival welcomed riders to Harold Beebe Farm for the Manchester Classic Horse Show, but one stood out above the rest in the Pre-Green 3’3” Hunters. The chestnut Warmblood Sandlot, owned by Margaret Duprey’s Cherry Knoll Farm, Inc., rode to their second week of excellent ribbons, proving their consistency is on point as they prepare for the approaching Pre-Green Incentive Finals.

The Vermont Summer Festival offered a change of scenery for the pair during the first week of competition, a new stomping ground for them after showing mostly in the Virginia area, but by the Manchester Classic Horse Show, nothing stood in their way. Cooper piloted Sandlot to the second and third place ribbons over fences. Cooper was very proud, feeling more prepared as the Finals approach in only a month.

“We tried a whole new routine that week,” Cooper explained. “Our plan is to stay in the ring and do both trips with minimal warm-up kept him focused, and our plan went great. Our training is really sinking in, and he is really staying focused. He is so smart that he anticipates the finish, and that was what we were combating. He was absolutely fabulous; I would say we had some of our best trips. He was much better with our new strategy, we are definitely getting there.”

Cooper trains the chestnut out of Caves Farm in Owings Mills, MD, and they have been aiming to compete in the Pre-Green Incentive Stake Finals in Lexington, KY, since the program was first introduced. The newly developed USHJA Pre-Green Incentive Program is the perfect fit for Sandlot. He exemplifies the Pre-Green Incentive Program horse, acting as an example of the time and dedication that goes into encouraging the development of pre-green horses.

Cooper continued, “For the second week of the show, he had really retained so much from the week prior. He is accepting the training, and we are in a place that we weren’t a year ago. He is such a classic and consistently good jumper that the changes from one ring to another didn’t affect him too much, and he really came out and did a great job. I am so excited for the Pre-Green Finals coming up in just a couple of weeks.”

Cooper will continue to compete with the gelding throughout the summer months, and hopes to reach their ultimate goal of sealing the victory in Lexington, KY, during the Bluegrass Festival. If their record continues to stay as consistent and strong, there is no doubt that they will prove themselves unstoppable.
