John Blackburn To Celebrate Launch of Healthy Stables By Design at 55th Annual Washington International Horse Show

Washington, DC - October 7, 2013 - Award-winning equestrian architect John Blackburn will celebrate the launch of his newly released book, Healthy Stables By Design at the Armed Forces Reception at the Acela Club in the Verizon Center during Military Night presented by The Boeing Company at the 55th Annual Washington International Horse Show in Washington, D.C., on Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.
Join 250 VIPs, guests and members of the media for a short program, cocktails and dinner. A portion of the ticket sales and author proceeds from Blackburn's book will be donated to PATH International's Wounded Warrior Project area organizations: Northern Virginia Therapeutic Riding Program, Maryland Therapeutic Riding, Therapeutic Riding and Recreation Center and Loudoun Therapeutic Riding and the Caisson Platoon Equine Assisted Therapy Program.  

About the Washington International Horse Show
Established in 1958, the Washington International Horse Show attracts more than 20,000 spectators to the six-day show, which includes Olympic-level competition along with community and charity events. More than 500 top horses and riders come to D.C. from all over the globe to jump for nearly half a million dollars in prize money. Event highlights include the Puissance high jump competition on Military Night (Friday), the $125,000 President's Cup Grand Prix, a World Cup qualifier (Saturday night) and Kids' Day (Saturday), a free, fun and educational community event. The Washington International Horse Show Association, Ltd. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization headquartered in Washington, D.C.

Washington International Horse Show Friday Schedule
Friday is Military Night at the Washington International Horse Show and kicks off at 7 p.m. with the $50,000 Speed Final for open and international jumpers. After an exhibition from the Caisson Platoon, the heart-stopping Puissance competition takes place. Horses will jump the great wall until only one horse remains without knocking it down. The Washington International is one of the few remaining shows in the US to offer this class. The record to beat is 7' 7-1/2," set at Washington in 1983.

About John Blackburn
John Blackburn serves as the President and Senior Principal of Blackburn Architects, a Washington, D.C., firm. He has 35 years of expertise in architecture and 30 years of work focusing specifically on equestrian architecture with more than 160 horse farm designs to his credit.
