Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club, home of the National Horse Show and Winter Equestrian Festival

ON THE ROAD TO RECOVERY AFTER HURRICANES AT WELLINGTON SHOW GROUNDS

WELLINGTON, Florida, Thursday, September 30 – The world-class venue for the National Horse Show and Winter Equestrian Festival suffered only aesthetic damage after being battered by two hurricanes in three weeks but is expected to be ready in plenty of time for the upcoming shows, according to Gene Mische, president of Stadium Jumping, Inc., which manages the events at the Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Center.

“During the last two storms we sustained a lot of cosmetic damage,” said Mische. “It looks worse than it really is. Structurally, the facility withstood the storms. There is no structural damage. The footing in the Internationale Arena is outstanding. And the other arenas came through, too. Although we have been without power for more than a week, cleanup has already started.”

The storms uprooted trees along Pierson Road and throughout the property, curtailing some shading and ambience but not damaging the world-class site, according to Mische.

Mische also said the property will be in world-class form for the National Horse Show, which is scheduled for November 30 through December 6. The Winter Equestrian Festival begins in late January. Both events will feature 2004 Olympians competing in show jumping and dressage disciplines.
