Release Date: 2014-02-04

Wellington, FL – February 4, 2014 – American dressage legend Debbie McDonald returned to International Polo Club Palm Beach (IPC) on Sunday to toss the coin to determine starting possession of the ball for the opening game of the 20-goal Ylvisaker Cup.

McDonald waved to the crowd from the back of a Maserati convertible as she was escorted to the center of the field for the coin toss.

“It’s such an honor to do the coin toss at IPC,” McDonald said. “It’s the second time I’ve done it, and I’ve enjoyed it so much both times. I’m grateful for the invitation and loved being part of this wonderful event.”

Coca-Cola and Palm Beach Illustrated squared off for a competitive match. Palm Beach Illustrated ultimately seized the victory with a close final score of 11-10. Most Valuable Player honors went to Jared Zenni of Palm Beach Illustrated, and Best Playing Pony was Jeff Hall’s Christian.

McDonald, an Olympic bronze medalist, is in Wellington for the winter season with her protégé Adrienne Lyle, who represented the U.S. at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

As Developing Dressage Coach for the United States Equestrian Federation, McDonald has been observing competitions in Wellington to scout for talent to represent the United States in future international events. She was recently a featured clinician at the Robert Dover Horsemastership Clinic and the USEF/USET Foundation Dressage Pipeline Clinic.
