Castlewood Farm Finds Winners' Circle Throughout WEF Week 6

Release Date: 2014-02-21

Wellington, FL - February 21, 2014 - If looking for Castlewood Farm riders at the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF), the winners' circle would be a great place to start your search. During week six of the circuit, Madison Butehorn, Beth Craven and Cynthia Screnci all found themselves there or in the top of the ribbons across the equitation and jumper divisions.

Cynthia Screnci kicked off the notable week for Alan Korotkin's Castlewood Farm, Inc. aboard her own Kasimi in the $1,500 Adult 36 & Over Jumpers. Several weeks of hard work and practice paid off as the pair rode away with the win, clean and a full three seconds ahead of their competition.

"For the past couple of months, we've been working on him getting to pick his feet up and be more aware of the rail," said Screnci. "Last week we started doing more gymnastics with him, and it paid off. He was fast, fun and more importantly clean."

"When he's clean, he's very hard to catch. I'm crazy, and he's quick, so the combo between the two can be really fun or really scary," laughed Screnci.

Castlewood's week six winning streak continued with Beth Craven and Silverado. The pair won all three Low Adult 18-35 Jumper classes, which earned them the championship tricolor ribbon.  Craven and her Hanoverian gelding have been competing in the Low Adult Jumpers and Ariat Medal classes throughout WEF.

"He's been fabulous; he is just phenomenal. He just gets all excited about going back into the ring and going as fast as he can," explained Craven. "We did great in the first class, where we won by a little more than a second. I can't ask for a better horse."

Madison Butehorn put the final exclamation point on the great week for Castlewood, turning in a stunning round in the ASPCA Maclay, Section B on Sunday.  The 18-year old impressed the judges and claimed second place aboard Icarus, amidst a large field of some of the nation's most talented junior riders.

Butehorn and Icarus have partnered up for her last year as a junior rider - a year that, if Sunday is any indication, is looking to be quite successful.

"We got Icarus at the beginning of circuit and this is our biggest success so far," stated Butehorn. "I was looking for a horse that could get me to the next level for my last junior year, and he's been great so far."

Butehorn hopes to make the final year of her junior year her biggest and best yet before she heads off to ride for the University of South Carolina.

"I'd like to qualify for the George Morris [Excellence in Equitation] Class and qualify or get a ribbon in an equitation final," Butehorn said. "To make the top 25 in a medal final or to make it to the second round of the Maclay finals would be great."

Butehorn, a senior from Naples, FL, has been riding with Alan Korotkin and Susan Tuccinardi at Castlewood Farm for over two years, and she will be a definite one to watch in the equitation division throughout the remainder of the season at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.
