PoloGear™ Responds to Show Jumping, Dressage and Polo’s Evolving Needs

Written by: Kendall Bierer
Client: Polo Gear USA
Release Date: 2014-03-21

Wellington, FL – March 21, 2014 –Since 1992, PoloGear™ has been listening and watching the ever evolving needs and wants of the equestrian world and today they continue to provide unrivaled products tailored exactly for their clientele across all equestrian disciplines. While people think of polo because of their name, PoloGear’s Team Shop™ is heavily involved with show jumping, dressage and business clients.

PoloGear™ takes performance to the next level by combining technology and design elements in their creations. Historically, PoloGear™ focused solely on the sport of polo, but the company has evolved into the future as the leader with equipment, apparel and branding available across all equestrian disciplines and businesses.

“It’s about the journey,” PoloGear™ Co-founder Gary Fellers said. “I had a very bad polo accident several years ago, and the time away from the company allowed for reflection. I wondered how we would continue and make things better for our clients. We are now at a point where we are kick starting new growth and we are back stronger than ever, touching every discipline of the sport.”

Every experience within PoloGear™ is personalized, furthering their customer satisfaction guarantee with only the best products available. Their entirely in-house facility has unparalleled capabilities that are unique and powerful in their commitment to create the finest products on the market.  This commitment is translated to their consumers on a daily basis.  In fact, they do everything in-house from digitizing, designing, screening, heat transfers and the most advanced technology of sublimation. Each product goes through a strict quality control process, and is hand sewn and stitched at the PoloGear™ Team Shop™. PoloGear™ uses all of the elements to the benefit of their customers, providing them with a custom design and fit that meets their needs. The design team encourages their clients to participate in the creative process, choosing colors, embroidery and design. PoloGear™ has built a plethora of relationships with different manufacturers over the past 22 years, providing custom items with limitless possibilities.

PoloGear™ has worked with Adequan for five years, branding the pharmaceutical company and enhancing their image within the global horse community. This year, PoloGear™ is working to build relationships and connections within the show jumping world through their generous sponsorship of the 2014 Ridge at Wellington Turf Tour. Riding apparel and ancillary equine necessities and adornments have proven an effective way of extending the PoloGear™ brand.  Consistently, PoloGear™ reaches outside of the normal scope, providing branding for horses with sheets, coolers, blankets, saddle pads and even polo wraps not to mention the horse show stabling presentation through curtains, tack trunk covers and banners—anything you can graphically create, PoloGear can transfer it to a plethora of products.

“Our products are top quality and our service is personal,” Fellers said. “We began sponsoring The Ridge at Wellington as a way of helping Nona [Garson] and George [D’Ambrosio] reach their dreams. Our relationship has worked so well and our product spoke for itself. We will continue as their official apparel sponsor after they leave Wellington, bringing the PoloGear™ name to the Ridge events in New Jersey.”

Their space age fabric, PoloGear™ KwikDri™, offers the best of both worlds for riders across all disciplines. Co-founders Gary Fellers and Jeanette Sassoon have worked diligently to listen to top professionals in polo, dressage and show jumping, combining modern design with quality products. The KwikDri™ fabric is revolutionary, offering an extremely lightweight, luxurious, flexible and comfortable fit. The innovative fabric wicks moisture, is UVA treated, anti-microbial and anti-bacterial—it is the next generation of performance fabric.

Each shirt embraces the best concepts of performance and fashion. The versatile PoloGear™ KwikDri™ fabric is functional and fashionable. The KwikDri™ products can go through the 100% state of the art sublimation process, where each fiber of the fabric is dyed, providing a non-fade, non-bleed color.

“When we first started PoloGear™ in 1992, Southern Blvd. was still a two-lane road,” Sassoon recollected. “In many ways, our company’s evolution reflects the same growth Wellington has undergone. Now Southern is an eight-lane highway, and it effectively represents how long and how far we have come in our growth.  We have been able to keep up with the ever-expanding growth of our equestrian community and now we are penetrating into the future with innovative and functional designs that will first of all be comfortable and safe for the horse and rider and also allow all around enhanced performance.”

Sassoon continued, “In addition, what we are capable of producing goes beyond the equipment realm.  We help our clients with expressing their identity through branding—It becomes personal. We, together, create a design through graphics, color and font that portrays their personality and identity. It is amazing what you can create when you use creativity and imagination. We think outside of the box.   Everyday we listen to what people want and need to enhance their business and performance in and out of the saddle.”

When PoloGear™ first began their quest to produce a saddle that would improve the health and performance of horses, they went above and beyond to learn every meticulous detail. They worked with expert saddle makers, disassembling a variety of saddles, and traveled around the world to gain the finest education on important and exact specifications. The fruit of all this effort is reflected in the fact their polo saddles are now world renowned for their design and construction. Teaming with top professionals, they designed saddles with their PoloGear™ Free Shoulder™ patent that have proven effective in the dressage and show jumping rings.

“Everyone learned from dressage that performance is all about how a saddle fits,” Fellers explained. “We wanted to create a product that would provide both comfort and performance for the horse. The PoloGear™ Free Shoulder™ saddles allow for horses to perform at their optimum without pain or discomfort, without compromising or limiting the rider’s most important aid—their seat.”

An avid polo player for many years, Fellers recognized the need to create a more comfortable and less restricted shoulder for the polo saddles. Sassoon’s 30 years of dressage experience offered a window toward more advanced saddle fit techniques and the avenues that were being explored within the discipline.

Fellers combined his passion for creating this type of saddle with the ideas of Nic Roldan (top international polo player), Carlos Cortelezzi  a horseback specialist, Argentinean veterinarian and chiropractor, and the Verhan saddle makers to perfect the PoloGear™ Free Shoulder™ patent.

The popularity of the Free Shoulder™ found its first home within the realm of polo and quickly found a second home in the show jumping world after Olympian Todd Minikus brought the Verhan saddle to the show jumping arena.  Todd and his wife, Amanda, advocated for such a saddle for years, and through the brainstorming and careful crafting of Verhan, such a unique and impressive saddle became a reality. It wasn’t too long before it was seen in the dressage ring, as well as achieving the same outstanding result—freedom of movement.

Performance Saddlery, Inc. officially merged under PoloGear™ as of January 1, 2014. Trilogy’s Debbie Witty is president of the new “Performance Saddlery” division of PoloGear™, which includes the Trilogy and Verhan brands. Operations will be consolidated in the new PoloGear™ building located inside the beautiful venue of Polo West in Wellington. Witty’s staff of saddle fitters service Trilogy, Verhan and the “PoloGear Team Shop” line of custom equestrian apparel, horse and barn products, offering unsurpassed expertise. Part of the training of each of the saddle fitters, trained by Witty, is to have knowledge of the PoloGear™ Team Shop™.

The PoloGear™ Team Shop™ offers unmatched craftsmanship, which has become a specialty of the completely in-house facility of PoloGear™. With Sam Love, Jr. at the head of the creative process, PoloGear™ has become unstoppable. Love received three “Addy” awards from the American Advertising Federation, and his passion translates into every aspect of his work.. His skill set, combined with his expertise in graphic design, color and motion graphics, has made him an asset to PoloGear™ and their clients. Although Love heads the creative process, Sassoon continues to provide her artistic talent within the designs, working with top designers in New York to bring PoloGear™ clients fashion forward clothing.

PoloGear™ continues to find new ways to enhance the global equestrian community.  PoloGear™ has recently given support to the U.S. Para Equestrian Association (USPEA), Western Reining and the new and fast growing discipline of Western Dressage. On Sunday, March 16, Fellers and Sassoon presented Canada’s Lauren Barwick, Two-time Paralympian, Grade II, at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival CPEDI3* with the high point award for Para-Dressage.

“The USPEA is so close to my heart because I had a horse with an incredible challenge, Valiant,” Sassoon concluded. “I can relate to it so beautifully because the courage these riders display is the same courage that Valiant gave me. The mutual trust is as powerful, and it’s all about these wonderful qualities that the horse and rider  develop together to achieve that incredible relationship and bond.

PoloGear’s dedication to quality and attention to detail is paramount to their production and they are always on the cutting edge of new products. To stay up to date with PoloGear™ please or to order products, visit Visit Trilogy saddles by clicking here.
