Cherry Knoll Farmís Constable Continues Winning Ways During WEF 11 With $2,500 1.35m Jumper Victory

Written by: Kendall Bierer
Client: Cherry Knoll Farm
Release Date: 2014-03-26

Wellington, FL – March 26, 2014 – Cherry Knoll Farm’s Constable has taken the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) by storm with Laura Kraut in the irons. The 7-year-old has made his mark as a rising star, taking the first place prize last Wednesday in the $2,500 1.35m Jumpers during the 2014 WEF 11 Artisan Farms CSI 4*, and capturing top placings throughout the winter circuit.

The chestnut Dutch Warmblood gelding took the pinnacle of the ranks during the $2,500 1.35m Jumpers, sponsored by Derby Gold Pine Shavings, with a quick and tidy double clear effort. Kraut piloted him to the time of 32.819 seconds, narrowly passing Hardin Towell and Olympe De Brecey by 2/100ths of a second.

Constable made his mark in Chantilly, France, in July 2013, when he rode to the first place finish in the Prix Equidia Life International 6 Year Old Jumping Competition. When they returned to Wellington for the 12-week WEF, the pair moved into the 7 Year Old YJC classes. Constable shined through, and Kraut realized that he needed a little bit more of a challenge in the ring. Her plan has worked to their advantage, gaging his talent with a gradual plan to move up in height.

“I am so happy with how Constable has been coming along,” Kraut expressed. “We jumped in the 7 Year Old division until about Week 8, but he needed a little bit more of a challenge, so we moved him into the 1.35m Jumpers.”

Kraut continued, “He is very light, kind of a Thoroughbred type. He is so brave and forward going. Honestly, he is the highlight of my day to ride and show. The 12 weeks of WEF have been really good. Like anyone, it has been filled with its ups and downs, but it has been wonderful to be in Florida with friends, family and owners. I am looking forward to what the rest of the week will hold.”

Kraut and Constable’s partnership has only continued to grow over their 11-week run, their consistency is clear, also nabbing the second place in the $2,500 1.35m Jumpers during WEF 9 Bainbridge Companies CSI 4*. With their recent placings racking up from the 1.35m Jumper divisions, as well as their success in the $1,500 7 Year Old Jumper division, Kraut has decided to compete with Constable in the $20,000 Adequan Young Jumper 7 Year Old Classic on Friday, March 28, 2014.

“The 7 Year Old Final on Friday was our goal for the season at WEF,” Kraut stated. “The hardest thing about him is that he is so mature. It is so easy to want to jump bigger, but we have to gage that and not jump too high too fast. Our plan is to show sparingly throughout the rest of the year, maybe doing eight to 10 shows, and then return to Wellington for the winter circuit when he is fresh and ready to do the 8 Year Old division.”

The grey Holsteiner gelding, Cherry Knoll Farm’s Cedric, will also make his final debut of the winter circuit. He will compete in the $34,000 G & C Farm 1.45m Classic and the $34,000 Spy Coast Farm 1.45m Classic.

“Margaret [Duprey] has been great!” Kraut exclaimed. “It is going to be the old man and the young one out this week for her, so it is going to be a really exciting end to the 12 weeks.”
