Exciting Competition in Picturesque Location at The Ridge at Riverview Summer Spectacular II

Written by: Amanda Oppold
Client: The Ridge Farm
Release Date: 2014-08-21

Asbury, NJ – August 21, 2014 – Last week competitors traveled to the beautiful Ridge at Riverview in Asbury, NJ, for the second week of competition in the Summer Spectacular. The show featured a stunning location, world-class rings, exciting hunter, jumper and equitation competition and elite riders and horses.

Competition for hunter riders featured a variety of exciting classes for young and old, including mini stirrup classes, the Asbury Mini Hunter Classic, the Children/Adult Hunter Handicap Derby and the Asbury Hunter Derby.

Taking the Asbury Mini Hunter Classic at the 2’ height level was Claire Drahzal on her own Wizard, and coming in second was Natalie Nederostek on her own horse Khaleesi. The two riders showed off their abilities at a low height and laid a strong foundation for future classes.

The Children/Adult Hunter Handicap Derby welcomed riders looking to impress the judges with their horse’s style. Lauren Reid on Kelly Lasch’s Kiss me Kate, a 10-year-old Haflinger/Thoroughbred cross, won top honors.  Rider Elizabeth Russell claimed second place on Caitlin Botes’ About Towne, a 9-year-old Canadian Sport Horse.

For the feature event of the hunter division, the Asbury Hunter Derby, riders tried to show off their mount’s graceful jumping style and maneuverability. Andrew Ross on his own horse Angelique took the blue ribbon, with Danielle Pagano and Two is Better Than One coming in second.

Equitation riders, especially the adorable young riders, competed in a variety of medal classes such as the NJHSA Mini Maclay won by Emily Scalia on her mount Aladin De Shalimar and the M&S Children’s Pony Medal/NJPHA Pony Eq class in which Sofia Antico took the blue ribbon on Cloverfields Monogram.

Show jumpers and spectators of all ages were treated to exciting heights and speedy rounds in the wide selection of jumper classes.

The adorable Itty Bitty Mini Prix, featuring heights of 2’ to 2’3”, was won by Sofia Antico on Faux Finish, a cute red roan, 14.0 hand Argentine Cross owned by Palermo Show Stable. Elly Scherer on Fedde Le Grand took a second place finish.

The Futures Grand Prix 1.15-1.30m class featured thrilling heights and fast-moving jumpers. Katelyn Hess on Bill Schaub’s Rio Cachet commanded the top placing, while Devin Ryan on Didam, owned by The Dobbs Group, took second place.

The top event of the show was the highly anticipated The Ridge at Riverview Grand Prix at 1.40m. Pablo Mejia took the top two placings with Glasgow in first and Soprano in second.  Glasgow, a young 8-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding owned by Blue River Farm Sales, sped to well-deserved victory. Soprano, the second place horse owned by Tracy Howe, is a 7-year-old Warmblood gelding that came in just behind Glasgow.

The Summer Spectacular II was another wonderful and well-managed show at the Ridge at Riverview. Coming up next at this ideal location is the Asbury Classic, which will include a wide range of classes covering all skill levels.  Located in the picturesque town of Asbury, New Jersey, the show is one of the most charming in the nation.  Be on the lookout for the full prize list for the upcoming event, held October 9-12 and October 16-19, 2014.
