Equestrian Architect John Blackburn Special Guest in Sagamore Farm Tour

Client: Blackburn Architects
Release Date: 2014-09-04

Glyndon, MD – September 4, 2014 – What once was a grand monument to the sport of thoroughbred racing has now been restored and revived through the efforts of renowned equestrian architect John Blackburn. This Saturday, Sagamore Farm, one of thoroughbred racing’s historic landmarks, will host a tour highlighting the updated grandeur of the property with special guest John Blackburn.

Sagamore Farm, established in 1925, has been home to some of the world’s most illustrious thoroughbred racehorses such as Native Dancer and Bed o’Roses. In 2005, after the farm had fallen into disrepair, Blackburn Architects was commissioned to remodel the property’s barn and other equestrian structures.

With his design expertise and years of experience, John Blackburn transformed the derelict barns and buildings into the impressive historical landmarks they are today – and the work isn’t finished. Blackburn continues to add to his vision for the property, making new improvements and repurposing timeworn traditions.

On Saturday, John Blackburn will help lead a tour of the iconic grounds, which are currently owned by Kevin Plank, CEO and founder of Under Armour, Inc. The tour, exclusive to Sagamore Farm’s Three Diamond Club Members, will touch on the farm’s rich history and illustrate how Blackburn and Plank are restoring the Sagamore name to its former glory.

This renowned and picturesque equestrian location owes much of its current greatness to Blackburn’s design expertise. His use of natural light and high, open ceilings provide ample ventilation and an outstanding aesthetic appearance in the main barn. By recalling styles of the past and melding those with current architectural methods, Blackburn has created equestrian buildings that are simultaneously beautiful and functionally beneficial to the horses they house.
