Get Out of the Show Ring and Back to the Basics with Bobbie Reber at the USHJA Zone 4 Free Clinic

Written by: Andrea Robbins
Client: USHJA Zone 4 Free Clinic
Release Date: 2015-01-22

Wellington, FL - January 22, 2015 - The USHJA Zone 4 Free Clinic is returning to Wellington on February 16, 2015 at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center. The clinic is open to all amateurs and juniors who are active USHJA Zone 4 members and all auditors are welcome. Bobbie Reber, International hunter and equitation judge and trainer, will be the clinician.

Reber looks forward to getting back to the basics with the riders in the clinic. Throughout the four sessions starting at 8 a.m. and ending at 4:30 p.m. Reber will be working with riders on strengthening flatwork and having a correct, structured position. The fence height will differ in each group: session 1 set at 2” - 2’ 6”, session 2 set at 2’ 9” to 3’, session 3 set at 2’ 9” to 3’ and session 4 set at 3’ 3” to 3’ 6.”

The USHJA Zone 4 Free Clinic will provide the opportunity for riders and horses to step out of the show ring and go back to the basics of training. “It is so easy to get used to being in this industry and at the horse shows, always trying to work with the elite. We forget about the basics,” Reber said. “It is all about the basics.”

Reber’s training philosophy is aimed at helping the rider figure out how to get the most out of their horse, regardless of the level and discipline. “One of the main things I’ve always worked towards is to try and get the most out of the horse,” Reber said. “Not make the horse go your way, but for you to try and figure out how the horse wants to go.”

As Eric Lamaze’s former trainer, Reber has firsthand experience with developing talent and horses. “Eric was one of my riders, and I was very fortunate that with him, it didn’t matter what I put him on, he rode it the way it wanted go. That was always my focus with any of the kids that I trained, many of which are trainers now,” Reber remembers.

For more information on how to sign up for the USHJA Zone 4 Free Clinic with Bobbie Reber, email Carrie Buxton at to reserve a spot in the clinic. A $100 deposit is required to reserve a spot, which will be refunded upon arrival at the clinic on February 16. Stalls are available upon request for $30.
