Messenger Hill Farm Pony Riders Make Their Mark at WEF

Written by: Alannah Castro
Client: Messenger Hill Farm
Release Date: 2015-02-07

Wellington, FL - February 7, 2015 - Messenger Hill Farm pony riders have been having a very successful season so far at the 2015 Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) in Wellington, Florida. Trainer Jodi Vazquez is particularly proud of how hard her youngest riders have been working.

"Every single week they've gotten ribbons on one of the ponies that they have, which I think is huge," said Vazquez. "Classes are hard and so many kids are competitive and ride well. I'm really impressed and really proud of them."

The youngest riders at Messenger Hill Farm have been showing plenty of love to their four-legged teammates.

"All three of them are really competitive, talented, hard-working kids. And they love their ponies too," said Vazquez. "They're always going to the barn and taking them out of their stalls and hand-grazing them. They love the horses too, which is a major part of horsemanship."

Every young rider gets hands-on individual attention from Messenger Hill Farm trainers throughout the week, but they also have been working on their riding on their own.

"Some days I'll see them hacking on their own, riding without stirrups on their own and practicing those their skills," said Vazquez.

The training program at Messenger Hill Farm is diverse, and the pony riders are just one segment of a broad spectrum of riders that train with the Vazquezes.

"Our program has always been open to whatever our clientele needs," said Vazquez. " Right now, we just have a couple of really good, talented kids coming along. Whether they want to do short stirrup or grand prix, we find the right animal for that program."

Vazquez shared that she anticipates the number of younger Messenger Hill Farm riders traveling to WEF to compete will increase.

"We're really excited because we have about four or five other pony kids that are home in Chicago right," said Vazquez. "They are starting to move to horses and will be come to Florida next year. In the meantime, they're going to local shows at home."
